High winds in Brownwood toppled a large tree onto Coggin Avenue Monday morning and blocked all four lanes of traffic.

 

Brownwood Police Department along with Brownwood Fire Department diverted traffic for approximately two hours as City of Brownwood workers cleared the roadway.  A utility pole was broken by the tree as it fell.  Initial reports stated that no electric lines were involved; however, cable and phone lines were down.

More high wilnds and strong thunderstorms are expected to hit the area Monday afternoon through the evening.
