The Council for Citizens Against Government Waste (www.ccagwratings.org) rates all the members of the House and Senate based on their votes on specific pieces of fiscal legislation. Mike Conaway falls short when compared to the true conservatives in the House and is even significantly below two who are commonly considered RINOs, John McCain and Lindsey Graham in his overall rating. His rating in 2010 is “Hero”, but his overall rating is “Friendly”.

The National Tax Payers Union does a similar analysis. Mike did very poorly with them during the Bush years, though he has a better record since Obama took office. This may indicate a willingness to change his views.  But my concern is that this may indicate wishy-washiness on principles.

The question now is whether we can expect him to transform himself into a true (principled) champion of fiscal conservatism in 2012. Based on his past record I think the answer is obvious.

Chris Younts is committed to reducing the size of our government, reducing our debt and our taxes, the very things Mike Conaway has not done. Chris has also signed the Term Limits Pledge, which Conaway obviously hasn’t done, since he’s running for his fifth term in Congress. Yes, we need change. We need a true conservative in Congress. We need Chris Younts.

Regards,

Karen Thompson, San Angelo
