Brownwood Police responded to the 1500 block of Main Street where a man was threatening to kill himself and were able to talk him out of committing suicide and helped him to get treatment late Thursday night.

BPD Officers Johnson, Miller, and Bowman along with Detective Taylor responded to the residence at 11:17pm Thursday night to find a male subject in his bedroom with a loaded shot gun pointed at his chest.

According to Brownwood Police Sergeant James Kidd, the 61-year-old man stated he was tired of everything and had just lost his job.

“Officer Brandon Johnson was able to talk the man from a window, convincing him to come out of his bedroom and release the weapon and to come the front door,” said Kidd.  “From there, Detective Aaron Taylor spoke with the man and persuaded him to come outside of the residence where he was patted down for the officers and his own safety.”

The shotgun, which was found beside the bed in a cocked position, was retrieved from the bedroom according to Kidd.

According to police, the man was found to be intoxicated, sad that he had lost his job and  stated that he did not want to be arrested.  After officers assured him he was not going to be arrested, the man was taken to Brownwood Regional Medical Center for evaluation.
