A mix of sleet and huge snowflakes gently blanketed the Brown County area Sunday night and as a result of the new moisture, Brown County Commissioners again took no action on implementing a burn ban for the county.

All agreed that their precincts were in “good shape” and the matter will be addressed at the next commissioner’s court scheduled for 9:00am on Tuesday, February 21st.  The usual meeting day was moved due to the county recognizing the Presidents’ Day holiday.

*Due to budgeting concerns and confusion of where funds might come, Suzy Young of the elections office did not receive approval to change seasonal part time employee Shirley Keyes to a full time position.  The court will review the matter in a future meeting when more documentation of funding for the position can be provided.   According to Young, the elections office has plenty of budgeted funds, which will be moved from several different accounts and not cost the county any extra money this year.  Commissioners expressed concern for next year’s funding of the position as well.

*County Emergency Management Director Brent Bush received approval to attend the Texas Emergency Management Conference on April 2-5 in San Antonio.  According to Bush, this is the only conference he attends each year and the cost would be $150 for the conference registration fee, $541.72 for hotel stay, $195.00 reimbursement for mileage (390 miles at $0.50/mile) and meal allowance $144.00 (4 days at $36/day).

*Justice of the Peace Jim Cavanaugh received approval Monday to implement the iTicket software, which will allow electronic data processing that will not only eliminate errors but also speed up the processing of the DPS ticket information in Brown County according to information provided by JP Walter Croft in Cavanaugh’s absence at last week’s meeting of the court.
