The final day of the 60th Brown County Youth Fair was full of activity including the horse show, loading up animals, naming the Miss Brown County Fair Association, and the main event – the awards and premium auction.

This year a new event was added on Saturday, Ag Mechanics.  Projects included woodworking, welded projects and even a greenhouse.

After the morning horse show, the work began.  The show arena had to be cleared of all the wood shavings, swept and decorated for the big night. The auction and premium sale began at 5:00pm.  The Miss Brown County Fair Association was named and then the awards and bidding started.  Many local businesses came out to support the kids of Brown County.

 

Special presentations were given to those who have contributed to the youth fair for many years.  Putter Jarvis, Delton Sweatman and Bill Stewart (the auctioneer for the night) were given Lifetime Supporter belt buckles for over 40 years of dedication to the youth fair.  Also honored was the memory of Joyce Parker, who was a dedicated supporter, mentor and developer of the Home Economics division for over 50 years.  Her son Kris Parker was honored with a plaque in her memory which will be hung in the Home Economics Building.

Thanks to the support of the community and the hard work of all the Brown County Youth Fair Association Board members and volunteers, parents, vocational agriculture teachers, extension agents, and donations of those to support the youth fair, the week was a great success for the kids.

Congratulations to all of the participants of the many events.  Many of the exhibitors of this year’s show will continue with their animals in major shows such as the Houston Livestock Show and the Fort Worth Stock Show.  Several of the judges confirmed that Brown County had some high quality livestock and great showmen in the ring this week.  Best wishes to those who go on the major shows!
