HPU Volleyball Announces 2011 Team Awards

The Howard Payne University volleyball team held their annual awards banquet this weekend and players were honored for their contribution to the Lady Jackets volleyball program.  The annual volleyball banquet was held in the Mabee University Center on the Howard Payne campus with many friends and family in attendance.

Tamika Heline  – Best Offensive Player and Most Valuable Teammate – (4th straight year)Along with the team awards, Heline was named 2nd Team All-Conference as a outside hitter by the American Southwest Conference. Heline is only the second player in HPU history to have over 1,000 kills and 1,000 digs in her career. This season she finished with 406 kills the third best all-time for a Lady Jacket. She is second All-time in games played at HPU with 412 and in kills with 1,345.

Kristin Hammond  – Best Defensive Player – (4th straight year)Hammond was also named Honorable Mention All-Conference as a Libero by the ASC. Hammond finished her HPU career as the All-time digs leader with 1,643. This season she had with 503 digs, the second best All-time in a season at Howard Payne. She is also the HPU leader in career games played with 426 as a Lady Jacket. 

Shelby Bridges – Best New PlayerShelby played in 30 matches for Howard Payne this season. She was second on the team in assists with 301. She was also fourth on the team in service aces with 27.

Rhyne Acuff – Most Improved PlayerRhyne played in all 31 matches for the Lady Jackets recording 138 kills. She also finished second on the team in total blocks with 65.

Sarah Davies – Most Inspirational Player
Though Sarah only played in eight matches for HPU this season, she contributed more that just on the floor. Her hard work and attitude were a great encouragement to her team. She recorded 12 kills, six assists and nine total blocks on the year.

Carlee Ammons – Yellow Jacket Award – (2nd straight year)
Carlee battled back from a surgery to start the season but worked hard and saw playing time toward the end of the season. She played in eight matches for HPU recording 11 kills and four total blocks.
