Abilene apartment shooting victim, Jacob Allen, also son of Brownwood Middle School principle Bryan Allen  is making great strides in recovery according to BISD officials. 

Doctors at Hendrick Medical Center have upgraded Jacob Allen to stable condition.

In an email to let the ISD know how Jacob is progressing.  According to his father, Jacob has seen an occupational therapist who took him for a walk yesterday.

“He has been to the cafeteria, ordered food and ate,” said Allen.  “We have had many good conversations.”

Allen’s email stated that Jacob’s improvement has been “a God thing”, said BISD officials.  The email states he has memory, has walked, and is able to talk.  The one thing that is concerning to doctors is his vision, he can see, but not as he should.  It is hoped that with time, this could improve as well. 

“Although it will be a long process to 100%, he is making great progress,” stated his father.

A collection of donations is continuing at Brownwood Middle School to help the Allens with medical expenses.  Donations may be mailed or dropped by the school, which is located at 1600 Calvert Road in Brownwood.

On the evening of September 7, 2011, Jacob Allen was shot by John Lee, a 73-year-old Asian male, who walked into the apartment office at 750 North Judge Ely Blvd. in Abilene where Allen and Joshua Steed worked.  Allen sustained a bullet wound to the head, which caused severe trauma.

According to Abilene Police Department, Joshua Steed grabbed a chair and ran to Jacob’s defense.  Steed engaged John Lee, and the two struggled over the gun.  During the course of the struggle, John Lee suffered several injuries.  Joshua survived the struggle with only minor injuries.

Jacob Allan and John Lee were both rushed to Hendricks Medical Center where John Lee died from his injuries according to a press release from APD.
