comptrollerlogoTexas Comptroller Susan Combs released sales tax allocation numbers for September which showed another increase in sales tax revenue for the city of Brownwood.

Brownwood’s sales tax allocations for the month are up 4.42% over September of last year.   The city is continuing to have positive gains with a 5.75% increase year-to-date.

The City of Early showed a decline in their September sale tax allocations with a drop of 3.51% compared to the same month last year.  Sales tax collections for Early have dropped overall 4.20% so far this year compared to last.

Statewide, Combs will send September sales tax allocations totaling $483.9 million to cities, counties, transit systems and special purpose taxing districts, up 10 percent compared to September 2010.

“Monthly sales tax revenue has now increased for 17 consecutive months,” said Combs. “For the state’s recently concluded 2011 fiscal year, sales tax revenue increased 9.4 percent from the previous fiscal year. Sales tax revenue grew in major sectors especially the oil and gas industry and manufacturing as a result of increased business spending during the year. There was also growth in the retail and restaurant sectors. We will continue to monitor factors such as the job market, consumer spending and housing.”

September sales tax payments represent sales that occurred in July.
