lowLakeWeekend rains in Brown County on Saturday and again Sunday gave some relief to residents, but very little runoff made it to Lake Brownwood as a result.

“We caught .2 of a foot in the lake, that’s approximately what fell right over the surface area of the lake,” Spinks said. “There was not any appreciable runoff.  Nothing came from the bayou or the Jim Ned.”

This rainfall will likely delay the next stage of outdoor water restriction for a short time.

“The .2 of a foot increase will put off the Stage 3 Drought Contingency level for at least another 4 days and it could stretch out to another 6 days,” Spinks said.

Lake Brownwood is currently at 1410.7 msl (mean sea level) after the weekend rain, according to Spinks.  Stage 3 water restrictions will be put into place when the lake drops to 1410 msl.   Spinks said that the lake may reach that level in the next two weeks. (CLICK HERE for more info on what Stage 3 restrictions will entail.)

“If no more rainfall, 10-14 days,” Spinks said.

The Brown County Water Improvement District board of directors voted unanimously on Monday to authorize Spinks to implement Stage 3 of the Drought Contingency Plan once the lake reaches 1410 msl.
