comptrollerlogoTexas Comptroller Susan Combs released sales tax allocation numbers today which included positive increases Brown County cities of Brownwood, Early, Bangs and Blanket for the month of August.

Brownwood’s sales tax allocations for August 2011 are up 3.35% over August of last year.   The city is continuing to have positive gains with a 5.90% increase year-to-date.

The City of Early showed positive gains for August with a 2.31% increase in allocations over August 2010.  The year-to-date allocations for Early are still behind the same period of 2010 at -4.28% although it is an improvement of 1.16% over last month’s year-to-date allocations.

“This marks the 16th consecutive month of increased state sales tax revenue,” said Combs.  “The strong growth was again primarily in business spending in areas such as the oil and gas sector and manufacturing.  Sales tax revenue from restaurants also showed gains.”

Combs will send August sales tax allocations totaling $606.7 million to cities, counties, transit systems and special purpose taxing districts, up 9.1% percent compared to August 2010.

August sales tax payments represent sales that occurred in June.
