STEER & HEIFER VALIDATION
If you are planning on exhibiting a steer at the Brown County Youth Fair or a State Show it is mandatory that the steer is validated. If you are planning on showing a heifer at any fall shows and it has not been validated, you will need to have it at validation. Steer/Heifer validation will be on Tuesday June 23, 2026, 9:00am – 11:00am (MUST BE IN LINE BY 10:00am) at Bob Clarks pens. If you cannot make this date, please contact Nick Gonzales as soon as possible at nigonzales@ag.tamu.edu and we will work with you. If you have any questions or concerns, contact the Extension Office.

Registration Closes: June 30, 2026 Sheep Capital Lamb and Goat Camp: July 31, 2026 to August 2, 2026
We are excited to announce the addition of goats to our sessions! We are limiting entries to 50 lamb exhibitors and 30 goat exhibitors.
The Sheep Capital Lamb and Goat Camp serves as a great opportunity for lamb exhibitors and their families to gain a wealth of knowledge on all aspects of raising and exhibiting show lambs. Presentations include how to feed, exercise, and care for your show lambs.
The weekend is packed with tons of hands on experience in the show ring with experienced group leaders. Group sizes stay small, and we typically have an approximately 3-4 kid ratio per instructor or less. Kids are grouped on age and experience levels listed on the entry form.
Breakfast and lunch for registered adults and kids are provided Saturday and Sunday. Extra meal bands can be purchased for adults coming but not participating in the lectures or siblings too young to participate.
This event is held in the 1st Community Federal Credit Union Spur Arena, which is a completely climate controlled venue. Pens for the animals are located inside the air-conditioned building, so no fans required. Lambs may be washed or shorn before you come, or you can leave them in wool. You do need to provide your own animal, feed, water and feed buckets, and basic tack. You may also want to have a blanket and/or muzzle for your lamb.
A room block has been set up at The AmericInn hotel for $99/night. Please reference “Lamb Camp” when making a reservation!

MAJOR LIVESTOCK SHOW CHECK UPDATES
This will be updated weekly as we receive checks from stock shows. The Brown County Extension Office will only be receiving checks for 4-H exhibitors. Checks are available for you to pick up at the Brown County Extension Office during our office hours of Monday-Thursday, 8:30am – 4:30pm, (closed 12:00pm – 1:00pm for lunch) Friday, 8:30am – 12:00pm.

A thank you letter should be written to each buyer who contributed towards your project. Make sure that it is STAMPED and ADDRESSED and turned into the Extension Office! You will not receive your check until we receive your thank you letters. Handwritten “thank you” letters are best but, depending on your personality and penmanship a typed letter can also be appropriate. Thank each person individually, don’t try and thank a group of people in one letter. PLEASE NOTE THAT CHECKS ARE ONLY VALID FOR 90 DAYS.

BCYF BUYERS LIST
Don’t forget to write thank you notes to your buyers from BCYF! We have the list of buyers and their mailing addresses here at the extension office. Each exhibitor who sold in the premium sale received a receipt that has a bidder number that corresponds with the list. If the receipt has a number followed by a letter, the exhibitor needs to send thank-you letters to everyone in that letter block.You will not be permitted to pick up your premium checks until you have written them. Quality Counts Enrollment Instructions
Quality Counts is open and ready for any youth who need to take the course for the first time or renew their verification.
Quick Reminder: Exhibitors only need to complete the course once per grade division:
Junior: Grades 3–5
Intermediate: Grades 6–8
Senior: Grades 9–12
Don’t Forget
Quality Counts is required for all major livestock show entries.
Exhibitors must complete the course before entry deadlines.
Many county/local shows also require it — check your local rules.

The enrollment process for the 2025-2026 4-H year begins August 15, 2025. All 4-H families, new and returning, are encouraged to log in and enroll to become an official 4-H member.
As you begin your enrollment for the year, here are some tips in using 4-H ONLINE:
If you already have a profile DO NOT create another one!
If you lost your email and password call the county office so we can reset, it for you.
An active membership will not be granted until the $30.00 participation fee is paid on 4-H Connect!
You cannot register or participate in an event until your profile is ACTIVE.
When you are doing your re-enrollment for the 2025-2026 4-H Year please make sure you update your address, phone number, and e-mail address.
For any youth who is joining 4-H in 2025-2026 for the first time as a 3rd/4th grader we ask for you NOT TO ENROLL until September 1st. September 1st is actual first day of the new 4-H year and what is used to calculate grade/age. If a 2nd grader moving into 3rd grade enrolls before September 1st it will “tag” them as a Clover Kid, not charge an enrollment fee and lock them in as a Clover Kid for the year.
The Texas 4-H fee schedule is below:
$25.00 – Club Member Enrollment Discounted Fee: August 15 – October 31
$30.00 – Club Member Enrollment Regular Fee: November 1 to the completion of 4-H year
$10.00 – Clover Kid Enrollment Regular Fee
$10.00 – Adult Volunteer Application Fee
Don’t wait until the last minute to enroll because after October 31st the cost increases to $30!!
