EARLY – The No. 12 Earl y Lady Horns completed an undefeated run to the District 8-3A softball championship, collecting their 17th victory in a row, 13-1 over Dublin Friday afternoon in the regular season finale.

The Lady Horns (25-4, 14-0) will open postseason action against Bowie in a Region I-3A bi-district playoff series, with Game 1 at 6 p.m. Thursday and Games 2 and 3, if needed, to follow at 5 p.m. Friday at Weatherford College.

Down 1-0 after half an inning, Early scored three runs in the bottom of the first, eight in the third, and two more in the fourth to finish off the run-rule triumph.

Early was aided by five Dublin errors and three walks, but collected a dozen hits. Sydney Greaves led the charge with three singles; Jamie Vassar doubled, tripled, and drove in three; Andie Simpson doubled twice and knocked in a pair; Sunny Groom finished with a single, double and an RBI; and Paizlee Scott, Rylee Tupin and Tiffany Phelps each singled and tallied an RBI.

In the circle, Adysn Atchley and Leslee Beard teamed up to toss a three-hitter with 11 strikeouts and four walks, while the Lady Horn defense was flawless in the field behind them.
