Adyn Lucas (7) started the scoring with a two-RBI double in the top of the first inning for Brownwood (14-14, 2-6), which hosts Graham (9-16, 1-7) at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in the home finale

STEPHENVILLE – The Brownwood Lady Lions dropped a fourth consecutive District 6-4A softball decision, 8-5 at Stephenville Friday night, and their playoff chances are now on the brink of vanishing.

With two games remaining, the Lady Lions (14-14, 2-6) trail Stephenville (15-13-1, 4-4), Glen Rose (17-11-1, 4-4) and Mineral Wells (20-8, 4-4) – who are all tied for second place, two games behind front-runner Brock (19-9, 6-0) – by two games, requiring them to win out to keep any postseason hopes alive.

The Lady Lions host Graham (9-16, 1-7) in the home finale at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, then visit Brock at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, April 18 to conclude the regular season.

Against Stephenville Friday, the Lady Lions again led early with two runs in the top of the first inning, but the Honeybees grabbed a 6-2 advantage in the bottom of the third. Brownwood closed to within 6-4 in the top of the fifth, only for Stephenville to answer and stretch the advantage to 8-4 in the bottom half. The Lady Lions tacked on a final run in the top of the sixth, but could muster no more.

The Lady Lions generated 10 hits – two each by Adyn Lucas, Kaydence Allen, and Maitlyn Esquivel, and one apiece by Hanah Campos, Carlee Burks, Brenda Allen and Lila Mares.

In the circle, Kaydence Allen yielded two earned runs on seven hits with 10 strikeouts and five walks, while the Brownwood defense committed four errors behind her.

Brownwood’s runs in the first inning were the result of a two-RBI double by Lucas that plated Campos, who walked, and Eboni Baker – running for Kaydence Allen, who walked.

The Lady Lions’ two-run fifth featured an RBI double by Burks, that followed a two-out triple from Campos, and an RBI single by Kaydence Allen.

The last run for Brownwood in the sixth scored when Mares singled home Esquivel, who led off the inning with a base hit.
