The Penatuhkah Comanche Trails Partnership is thrilled to announce the grand opening of the Penatuhkah Comanche Trails, a landmark celebration of the rich cultural heritage and enduring legacy of the Penatuhkah Band of the Comanche Nation. The event will take place over two days, Friday and Saturday, April 24 & 25, 2026, at the Early Town Center Park, located at 109 Kelcy Way, Early, TX.

Representatives from twelve communities, as well as landowners of archaeological sites throughout the region, have united under the auspices of the Comanche Nation of Oklahoma to stimulate heritage tourism across Central Texas. Participating towns include Goldthwaite, Paint Rock, Ballinger, Cross Plains, Coleman, Comanche, Early, DeLeon, Brownwood, Menard, San Saba, and Santa Anna.

Also involved are the Executive Directors of the Texas Forts Trail and the Texas Midwest Community Network. Each community will have a booth showcasing how they fit into the trail and why visitors should explore their cities to discover more of this remarkable history.

A TRIBUTE TO THE PENATUHKAH PEOPLE

At the heart of the Early Town Center Park stands a newly constructed tipi, built to honor the Penatuhkah Indians who roamed the Pecan Bayou — relying on its abundant pecans as a vital source of protein and its waters as their lifeblood. The City of Early, Darin St Ama with Savage Saint and trail officials have worked closely with the Comanche Nation to ensure that this heritage is honored with authenticity and respect. Special thanks go to JW Marshall, Morgan Tosee, and the Comanche Nation for their invaluable contributions in bringing the tipi to life.

ABOUT THE PENATUHKAH COMANCHE TRAILS PARTNERSHIP

The Penatuhkah Comanche Trails Partnership is a collaborative effort among Chambers of Commerce, Visitors Bureaus, historical non-profits, the Comanche Nation of Oklahoma, and private landowners. This initiative aims to develop a landscape conservation plan to protect and interpret the traditional lands and resources of the Penatuhkah Band of the Comanche people while promoting heritage tourism across Central Texas. Covering approximately 15,000 square miles in the heart of Texas, this area represents the homeland of the Penatuhkah Band from about 1750 to 1875. The region’s sweeping views, rich ecology, and deep heritage offer tremendous potential for tourism, inviting Texans and visitors alike to learn about the great Comanche Empire.

MISSION & GOALS

The Penatuhkah Comanche Trails Partnership is dedicated to the restoration, conservation, and interpretation of Comanche Traditional Cultural Properties (TCPs) and the history and traditions of the Penatuhkah Comanche Band in Texas. The partnership seeks to create meaningful economic opportunities through heritage and ecotourism programs that tell the stories of this significant history at the very places where it happened — encouraging a living Comanche presence in their Texas homeland.
