Larry Cay Elder of Bangs, Texas, passed away peacefully on April 4, 2026, at the age of 83. He was born on August 15, 1942, in Stamford, Texas, to C.D. and Tiny Elder.

Larry was raised in Littlefield, Texas, where he attended school before answering the call to serve his country. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in March 1960 and was stationed at Camp Pendleton in San Diego, California. During his service, he was deployed to Okinawa, Japan; the Philippines; and Vietnam. Larry served honorably and was discharged in 1964 with the rank of Lance Corporal.

After his military service, Larry returned home to a life rooted in hard work and dedication. He farmed and ranched while also building a long career as a truck driver, working for numerous companies over 42 years before retiring.

On October 29, 1974, Larry married the love of his life, Donna Mae Sears, in Littlefield, Texas. Their marriage was one of enduring love and partnership.

Larry was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 45 years, Donna Mae Elder; his parents, C.D. and Tiny Elder; and other cherished family members who welcomed him home.

He is survived by his children: Michael Elder of Bangs, Texas; John Elder and wife Jessica of Coleman, Texas; and Brandy Johnson and husband Jeremy of Justin, Texas. He also leaves behind seven treasured grandchildren: Matthew Johnson of Denton, Texas; Luke Johnson of Durant, Oklahoma; Sarah and Jacob Elder of Hawley, Texas; and Katy, Brady, and Case Elder of Coleman, Texas.

Known affectionately as “Wappaw,” Larry was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He found joy in the simple pleasures of life: spending time with family, attending ballgames, sitting on the porch watching the cows, and enjoying a cigarette and a Miller Lite. He was deeply loved and will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

Arrangements are entrusted to Blaylock Funeral Home in Brownwood. A private family service will be held at a later date.
