The defending Class 4A track and field state champion Brownwood Lady Lions will be competing in six events this weekend at the 98th annual Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays on the campus of the University of Texas at Austin.
Making the trek south will be all three relay teams – the reigning state champion 4×100 along with the 4×200, both comprised of Icess Hall, Kaya Phillips, Jade Morin and Aniah Hines – as well as the 4×400 relay. As of Thursday morning, Lady Lions head coach Chelsy Lipsey was still debating what combination to enter in to the Austin race, as the Lady Lions have been experimenting with different runners throughout the early part of the season.
Also taking part in the Texas Relays will be Grace Sparks in the both the 100-meter hurdles as well as the pole vault, and Hannah Deen is also headed back to Austin to compete in the high jump, the event she qualified for state in both as a freshman and junior.
Sparks will run in the 100-meter hurdles at 1:30 p.m. Friday, followed by the preliminaries of the 4×200 relay. If the 4×200 advances to the finals, they will compete again at noon Saturday.
At 6 p.m. Friday, Deen will compete in the high jump, while the 4×400 preliminaries will be run at 6:40 p.m. If the mile relay moves on, it will run again at 4:05 p.m. Saturday.
The 4×100 preliminaries are set for 9 a.m. Saturday with the finals to take place at 1:30 p.m., and Sparks will compete in the pole vault at 9:30 a.m.
The District 6-4A track and field meet will take place next week – Wednesday, April 8 and Thursday, April 9 – at Graham.
