STEPHENVILLE – The two-day District 6-4A tennis tournament concluded Wednesday as Brownwood will be sending one entry to the Region I-4A tournament in Lubbock April 20-21.

The No. 1 seed mixed doubles team of Ashlyn Bundick and Blake Hutchins from Brownwood lost in the final to the No. 2 seed from Stephenville 4-6, 7-5, 6-3. The No. 4 seed from Brownwood, Lanie Johnson and Eric Smith, beat the No. 3 seed from Brock 6-2, 6-7 (4), 7-5 in the third place match.  That triggered a playback for second place between the two Brownwood mixed doubles teams as Bundick and Hutchins ended up winning that match over Johnson and Smith, 6-4, 6-1 and will move on to the Regional Tennis Tournament. Johnson and Smith placed third.

In boys doubles, the No. 4 seed Trine Baugh and Aiden Oplotnik pulled off an upset in the third place match, beating the No. 2 seed from Stephenville 5-7, 7-6 (1), 6-3.  That also triggered a playback with Brock, but Baugh and Oplotnik lost 6-1, 6-4 and finished third. The Brownwood boys finished with the second place Overall Team Award.

In girls singles, unseeded freshman Coulter Day was the bracket buster as she beat the No. 3 seed from Glen Rose 6-4, 6-4.  Day finished fourth in the tournament losing her last match to Stephenville 6-3, 6-3.
