
ABILENE – The Brownwood Lions finished third as a team at the District 6-4A golf tournament, but Peyton Sharp will be moving on to the Region I-4A tournament based his two-day performance at Live Oak Golf Course.
Sharp qualified as the second individual not on one of the two advancing teams for regionals with a 36-hole total of 162 – an opening 82 Monday followed by a closing 80 Tuesday. The Region I-4A boys tournament will take place April 13-14 at Shadow Hills Golf Course in Lubbock.
As a team, the Lions posted a 691 composite score which trailed district champion Brock (631) and runner-up Glen Rose (653).
Comprising the rest of the team for Brownwood were Layton Kemp with a 170 after rounds of 84 and 86; Will Stewardson with a 171 after rounds of 88 and 83; Ryker Calvert with a 188 after rounds of 92 and 96; and Judson Coalson with a 191 after rounds of 94 and 97.
Finishing the tournament as medalists from Brownwood were Sheriff Jones with a 168 after rounds of 88 and 80; Grant Gray with a 174 after rounds of 88 and 86; and Elijah Waldrop with a 238 after back-to-back 119s. Carson Noe and Bennett Windham didn’t complete the tournament for the second Lions team.
In girls action for the Lady Lions, Geyer Stewardson carded a 220 with rounds of 105 and 115, while Jacie Camp finished with a 228 after rounds of 123 and 105.
