
ABILENE – The Brownwood Lions sit in third place as a team at the District 6-4A boys golf tournament at Live Oak Golf Course after the first of two rounds on Monday.
The top two district teams, and top two golfers not on one of those teams, will advance to the regional round.
The Lions posted a 344 team score to open the tournament, which trails first-place Brock (313) and second-place Glen Rose (331).
Peyton Sharp paced the Brownwood contingent with an opening-round 82 trailed by Layton Kemp with an 84, Will Stewardson with an 88, Ryker Calvert with a 90, and Judson Coalson with a 94.
A second Lions team is also competing at the district tournament and sits in eighth-place with a 398 composite score. Team members include Grant Gray (87), Sheriff Jones (90), Carson Noe (95), and Elijah Waldrop (126).
For the Lady Lions, just two competitors are taking part in the district tournament as Geyer Stewardson posted a 105 Monday and Jacie Camp followed with a 123.
District tournament action will conclude Tuesday, and the Region I-4A tournament will be held at Shadow Hills Golf Course in Lubbock April 13-16.
