Students from Howard Payne University’s School of Science and Mathematics attended the Texas Academy of Science conference in Tyler this spring semester.
Dr. Greg Hatlestad, associate professor of biology, and Dr. Philips Agboola, professor of engineering and chair of the Department of Engineering, brought 10 students to the conference. Six students were selected to present research posters.
“All of our students did a great job presenting their research,” said Dr. Hatlestad. “Everyone had a great experience listening to all the talks and interacting with other scientists.”
The students presenting posters were Bethany Blair, biomedical science major from Zephyr; Vic Cooper, biomedical science and music major with piano concentration from Early; Ian Cortez, Honors Academy and biochemistry double major from San Angelo; Abby Henderson, biomedical science major from Junction; Jessi Loyd, biomedical science major from Coleman; and Addysage Seay, biochemistry and mathematics double major from Choudrant, Louisiana.
Other students in attendance were Jaden Bull, biomedical science major from Killeen; Kellen McKee, Honors Academy and biomedical science double major from Azle; Gerson Mendoza, Honors Academy and biology double major from De Kalb; and McKaylee Metcalf, biomedical science major from Graham.
Texas Academy of Science has been promoting research in Texas since 1892. It has graduate students, post-doc and professors present at the conference, in addition to undergraduate students. The trip was funded, in part, by the Welch Foundation Grant and HPU’s Department of Biology.
