
Brownwood Lady Lions basketball head coach Heather Hohertz was named a finalist for the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches Dean Weese Outstanding Coach Award in Class 4A.
Hohertz was just one of four Class 4A finalists along with Hillsboro’s Tre’ Sanchez, LaMarque’s Kimmie Daily, and Gatesville’s Whitney Holdbrook, who won the award.
The Texas Association of Basketball Coaches presents the award to recognize coaches who go above and beyond, showing exceptional leadership and dedication to their student-athletes.
The criteria required to be a Dean Weese Outstanding Coach Award finalist includes:
- Demonstrates exceptional leadership and mentorship to players
- Achieves significant success in team performance and development
- Contributes positively to the community and promotes sportsmanship
- Exhibits a commitment to the growth of basketball in Texas
- Inspires and motivates athletes to reach their full potential
- Maintains a strong record of integrity and ethical coaching practices
In 17 seasons in charge of the Lady Lions program, Hohertz has compiled a 354-197 record with playoff appearances in 16 of those seasons.
The 2025-26 campaign featured the second-most wins in a single season for the Lady Lions, who completed the year with a 28-6 record, including a program-record 16-game win streak, and peaked at No. 8 in the Class 4A state rankings.
