Paul Alan “Doc” Wheelis, 79, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 22, 2026 surrounded by his family. Graveside Services will be held at 10 AM on Thursday, March 26th at Greenleaf Cemetery in Brownwood, under the direction of Heartland Funeral Home in Early.

Alan was born January 30, 1947 at Medical Arts Hospital, in Brownwood, Texas to Dr. Paul M. Wheelis and Phal Rudolph Wheelis. He graduated from Brownwood High School in May of 1965. Then attended the University of Texas at Austin where he was a proud member of the Beta Omicron chapter of Beta Theta Pi. In December of 1970 he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy. Alan had over a 40 year career as a pharmacist, where he assisted many members of the community.

Alan loved to travel, he was able to experience many different parts of the country, from seeing the Northern Lights in Alaska to swimming on the beaches in Hawaii and visiting multiple national parks. He enjoyed fetch with his dog Jake, bird watching, hunting, and gathering a very nice taxidermy collection. He was an avid sports fan, always cheering on his Texas Longhorns.

Alan and Kimberly Simpson began their life together in November 2012, and enjoyed watching her two children, Tyler and Kelcy, grow up. They spent a lot of time outdoors, and he showed them his passion for travel by taking them on many trips to see new places and cultures.

Alan is survived by his wife Kimberly Simpson of Blanket, step-son Tyler Simpson and wife Jamie of San Angelo, step-daughter Kelcy Simpson of Blanket, sister Sue Ann Lurcott of Houston, sister-in-law Ruth Wheelis of Brownwood, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Alan was preceded in death by his parents Paul and Phal, and brother Dr. Dale E. Wheelis. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to Good Samaritan in Brownwood.

Online condolences, memories and tributes can be made to the family at www.heartlandfuneralhome.net
