Michael Leslie Owens, age 73, of Voca, passed away Friday, March 6, 2026 at his residence in Voca. Michael, son of the late O.V. and Geneva Owens, was born in Brady on August 19, 1952. The blood that coursed through his veins was that of cowboys, farmers, and soldiers.
He grew up on the family farm in Voca with his sister, Melinda, where he spent his youth developing a deep love for the Texas Hill Country. He carried that love with him to Texas A&M, where he realized his call to service.
Michael enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served abroad until orders brought him to the coast of North Carolina. There he met Vicky, the mother of his children, John and Heather. Later, he uprooted his family and returned to Voca so he could spend time with his father before his passing. Like many proud veterans with prior service, Michael later enlisted in the Texas Army National Guard and eventually returned to active duty. He served honorably until his retirement in 2002. Michael spent the rest of his life in the area he loved, surrounded by the company he appreciated. He was a proud father to John and Heather, and a grandfather to Taylor, Tyler, and Christian.
Michael Leslie Owens went home on March 6, 2026, leaving behind many people who will miss his laugh and smile. There are no services scheduled for Michael Owens at this time. Friends may view and/or sign Michael’s online memorial guest book at www.leatherwoodmemorialchapels.com.
