
EARLY – The Early Longhorns baseball team stretched its win streak to five games, capturing its District 8-3A opener at home against the Comanche Indians, 6-4, Tuesday afternoon.
The Longhorns (6-8, 1-0), who have not lost a game during the month of March, broke a 2-all tie with a pair of runs in the bottom of the third inning. Early added single runs in the fourth and fifth frames to stretch the lead to 6-2, before Comanche cut the deficit in half with a pair of runs in the top of the sixth, but the rally ended there.
Early finished with six hits – three by Ben Wilson, who tripled in drove in a run; a single and two RBIs from Eli Pallette; a double and and RBI from Will Speck; and a double from Hunter McCullough. The Longhorns also drew six walks and were aided by three Comanche errors.
On the mound, Pallette recorded the win as he allowed two earned runs five hits with three walks and two strikeouts. Brennan Rasor and Chris Ivy each worked scoreless inning of relief. The Early defense committed one error.
Comanche tallied five hits – a double by Jaxon Salinas and singled by Bain Barton, Donovan Daniel, Cooper Welch and CT Buford. Daniel and Salinas each drove in a run.
Pitching for the Indians were Daniel and Welch, who yielded a combined six earned runs on six hits with six walks and five strikeouts.
The two teams are slated to meet again at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Comanche to complete their two-game District 8-3A series.
