
BANGS – A seven-run lead slipped away from the Bangs Lady Dragons, as the Cross Plains Lady Buffaloes rallied for an 11-8 victory in District 7-2A softball action Monday.
Bangs (3-8, 0-3) opened an 8-1 advantage over Cross Plains (5-1-1, 1-0-1) through four innings, but the Lady Buffaloes closed the gap to 8-4 in the fifth inning and grabbed an 11-8 lead in the sixth, tallying the final 10 runs to snatch the win.
The Lady Dragons recorded six hits – two each by Cheyenne Rush and Adalynne Stephens and one apiece by Mattyson Taylor and Arianna Garcia. Stephens also registered a pair of RBIs while Taylor, Stormy Stringer and Gabriella Zapata added one each.
In the circle, Rush surrendered six earned runs on 11 hits with eight strikeouts and five walks, and the Bangs defense committed three errors.
Cross Plains finished with 11 hits – four by Kenzie McLean, three by Landry Barron, two by Karsyn Bennett-Phillips, and one apiece by Delanee Vasquez, and Claire Moses. Barron collected four RBIs, while McLean and Moses both drove in two runs, and Vasquez and Bennett-Phillips chipped in an RBI apiece.
McLean and Barron teamed up to yield seven earned runs on six hits with 15 strikeouts and one walk, as the Cross Plains defense was credited with four errors.
Bangs is scheduled to visit Santa Anna at 11 a.m. Wednesday.
