Lady Horns crush Millsap, Longhorns slip by Bangs in diamond action

Early Lady Horns 18, Millsap 1

EARLY – The Early Lady Horns cruised to an 18-1 victory over Millsap Tuesday to open the District 8-3A softball slate.

Early (12-4, 1-0) scored 11 runs in the bottom of the first inning against Millsap (1-8, 0-1), then added seven more in the second.

The Lady Horns notched 11 hits including two each from Sunny Groom, Aleeya McCombs, Avery Stifflemire and Adysn Atchley. Andie Simpson, Paizlee Scott, and Jaime Lyon also chipped in hits.

McCombs’ five RBIs were a team-best trailed by three from Groom, two each from Scott and Atchley, and one apiece from Simpson, Stifflemire, Lyon and Kyleigh Caperton.

In the circle, Atchley worked three innings and allowed one earned run on two hits with six strikeouts and two walks.

The Lady Horns will next visit Peaster at 5 p.m. Friday.

Early Longhorns 3, Bangs Dragons 1

EARLY – The Early Longhorns picked up their second baseball victory of the season Tuesday night, holding off the Bangs Dragons, 3-1.

Early (2-8) scored twice in the third inning and added an insurance run in the third, while the lone run for Bangs (1-6) crossed the plate in the top of the seventh inning.

The Longhorns generated five hits – two by Jack Nowell, and one each by Brayden Moya, Jaxson Stockman and Hunter McCullough. Stockman and Ben Wilson recorded RBIs.

Eli Pallette picked up the win, allowing one run on six hits with six strikeouts and three walks, and Chris Ivy struck out the final batter for a save.

For the Dragons, Boyd Diaz produced four hits and an RBI while Jaxon Duncan and Rex Guerrero also singled.

On the mound, Conner Bible yielded one earned run on five hits with seven strikeouts and one walk, as the Bangs defense committed three errors behind him.

Early is back in action against Brady at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Albany tournament, while Bangs will compete at the De Leon tournament Friday and Saturday.
