KILLEEN – The Brownwood Lions were unable to build on a two-game win streak as they dropped their final two outings at the Killeen baseball tournament Saturday, 2-1 to Elgin and 6-4 to Leander Glenn.

In the loss to Elgin, Brownwood surrendered runs in the top of the first and third innings, and mustered their lone run in the bottom of the sixth on a two-out home run by Garrett Wilkerson.

The Lions generated four hits – Wilkerson’s homer, two singles by Shaxton Simpson, and a single from Harrison Sweaney.

On the mound, Simpson and Daylyn Ansons teamed up to yield one earned run on five hits with eight strikeouts and six walks, and the Brownwood defense committed three errors behind them.

Brownwood then dropped a 6-4 decision to Glenn as, knotted at 2 going to the bottom of the second inning, the Lions yielded three runs and one more run in the fourth. Brownwood scored twice more in the fifth inning, but the rally ended there.

The Lions generated five hits – two from Robbie Robinson and one apiece from Sweaney, Wilkerson and Calder Damron. Wilkerson finished with a team-high two RBIs while Damron and Ansons each plated a runner.

On the mound, Cannon Calvert and Logan Flores combined to allowed six earned runs on eight hits with four strikeouts and five walks. The Brownwood defense committed one error behind them.

Brownwood pulled even at 2 in the top of the second inning as, with the bases loaded and one out, Ansons drew the fourth walk of the frame to plate Sweaney, who also got on board with a free pass. Damron’s RBI fielder’s choice then scored Wilkerson, who also walked, to forge the tie.

The two-run fifth for Brownwood saw Robinson and Sweaney reach on consecutive singles to start the frame. With one out, Wilkerson’s two-RBI single to right field scored Aden Smith, running for Robinson, and Sweaney, but the Lions were unable to produce any additional runs.

The Lions (3-6) are back in action next weekend at the Abilene tournament.
