Early softball knocks off Windthorst, Pampa at Iowa Park tournament

IOWA PARK – The Early Lady Horns softball team reached double figures in the win column Friday with victories over Windthorst and Pampa at the Iowa Park tournament.

Early started its second day at the Iowa Park tournament with a 10-7 victory over Windthorst.

Tied at 3 after one inning, the Lady Horns took control with six runs in the top of the second, then held off a late Windthorst charge.

Early finished with 10 hits – two doubles by Andie Simpson, two singles by Kyleigh Caperton, a double by Jamie Vassar and singles by Paizlee Scott, Sunny Groom, Harper Thornberry, Sydney Greaves, and Aleeya McCombs. Simpson, Scott, and McCombs each plated two runners, while Vassar and Groom added an RBI apiece.

In the circle, Adysn Atchley and Zeliah Land combined to yield five earned runs on six hits with five strikeouts an two walks, and the Lady Horn defense committed one error behind them.

The Lady Horns followed with a 9-2 triumph over Pampa as Early erupted for eight runs in the bottom of the first inning.

The 11-hit attack for Early included home runs from Caperton and Vassar, who each finished with three RBIs. Scott, Groom, Caperton, and Jaime Lyon each collected two hits, while Scott finished with two RBIs and Groom added one.

In the circle, Groom went the distance and yielded two runs on five hits with five strikeouts and four walks.

The Lady Horns (10-4) conclude tournament action at 9 a.m. Saturday against Henrietta.
