Nancy Kay King, the daughter of Aden and Virginia Bishop, was born on October 26, 1945 in Brownwood, Texas. She passed away peacefully on February 25, 2026 in Early, Texas surrounded by family and friends.

Her family will host a visitation on Sunday, March 1st from 3 to 5 PM at Heartland Funeral Home in Early. Funeral Services will be at 2 PM on Monday, March 2nd at the Early Church of Christ with interment to follow at Eastlawn Memorial Park in Early.

Nancy was a 1963 graduate of Brownwood High School, and 1972 graduate of Howard Payne University. She continued her education at Tarleton State University receiving a Master’s in Education. In 1998, after 27 years of service, she retired from public education. During her years as a teacher, she often spent her summers volunteering with vacation bible school and the Red Cross swim program. She also managed the ‘learn to swim’ program at Brownwood Country Club for several years.

During her brief retirement, she volunteered with the Early Church of Christ Tuesday Sonshine School and served as Early Chamber Ambassador, being named as Ambassador of the Year in 2003. In 2005 she took on a new career as program specialist for the Girl Scouts of Central Texas. This got her back in the classroom of area schools where she loved to present programs on character building, self-esteem and health and nutrition. She also helped lead the Girl Scout troops at LatchKey and Boys and Girls Club. In 2021, she was recognized by the Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce as the Woman of the Year. She was an active member of the Early Church of Christ, and Brownwood Kiwanis Club.

But beyond the titles and recognition, what really defined Nancy’s life was her heart. She lived a life of service not for applause, but because loving people was simply who she was. Nancy’s life exemplified service, faith, and steadfast love. In her profession and throughout her life in community involvement, Nancy made a lasting impact on the world around her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Jack, and infant twin daughters Kay Lynn and Keri Lea.

She is survived by her husband Bill, whom she married on May 8, 1964 son Joe and his wife Kelly of Early, Texas, son Scott and his wife Janessa of Zephyr, Texas; their grandchildren’s families, Cameron and Alex King, Callum and Asher of Penang, Malaysia, Tucker and Emily King, Jett and Wyatt of Sterling City, Texas, Brady and MaryClaire King, Everett and Truett of Brownwood, Texas, Jakayli and Zac Coppic, Ryder and Remi of Zephyr, Texas, Jayslin and Nick Papineau of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma
