Lady Lions soccer ranked No. 17 in Class 4A in latest TGCA poll

Nixon Johnson (1) and the Brownwood girls (13-2-1, 5-0), as well as the Brownwood boys (8-1-2, 5-0) host Little River Academy Friday in doubleheader action starting at 5 p.m.

The District 5-4A front-running Brownwood Lady Lions soccer team is ranked No. 17 in Class 4A this week by the Texas Girls Coaches Association, moving up two spots from their debut at No. 19 a week ago.

The Lady Lions (13-2-1, 5-0) are in the midst of a seven-game win streak as they host Little River Academy at 5 p.m. Friday in a rematch of a penalty kick shootout Brownwood won on the road following a 1-1 tie in regulation on Feb. 10.

Teams ranked ahead of the Lady Lions are No. 1 Celina (15-1-1), No. 2 Waxahachie Life (19-0-1), No. 3 Wimberley (15-1-1), No. 4 Salado (17-1), No. 5 Vidor (16-1), No. 6 Canyon Lake (15-1), No. 7 Lago Vista (13-1), No. 8 Madisonville (14-1-1), No. 9 Athens (17-2-1), No. 10 IDEA Quest (12-1), No. 11 North Dallas (11-1), No. 12 Godley (15-2), No. 13 Sealy (16-2-1), No. 14 Lake Dallas (13-2), No. 15 Graham (11-1-4), and No. 16 Borger (11-1-2).

Also, the 5-4A first place Brownwood Lions (8-1-2, 5-0), who are in midst of a nine-match unbeaten streak, welcome Little River Academy at 7 p.m. Friday in a rematch of Brownwood’s 4-0 road victory on Feb. 10.
