
EARLY – The Early Lady Horns split their final two softball games at the Battle on the Bayou on their home turf Saturday, defeating Lubbock Estacado, 17-4, before falling to Christoval, 8-3.
In the win over Estacado, the Lady Horns finished with 13 hits, including three by Jaime Vassar, who homered twice and drove in five runs, and three by Kyleigh Caperton, who also homered and collected three RBIs. Aleeya McCombs added two hits and an RBI and Sydney Greaves picked up two hits as well. Finishing with one hit apiece were Andie Simpson, who knocked in a run, along with Jaime Lyon and Paizlee Scott.
Early was also aided by six Estacado errors and a pair of walks.
In the circle for the Lady Horns, Leslee Beard yielded one earned run on two hits with two strikeouts and one walk, as the Early defense committed four errors behind her.
In the loss to Christoval, Early was up 2-0 after half an inning but allowed six runs in the bottom of the first and never recovered.
Early compiled six hits – two by Caperton, who tripled, and one each by Lyon, Scott, Vassar and Simpson. Lyon drove in two runs and Scott contributed an RBI.
In the circle, Sunny Groom and Adysn Atchley combined to allow seven runs on 10 hits with three strikeouts and one walk.
The Lady Horns (7-3) are back in action Thursday at the Hawley tournament.
