
STEPHENVILLE – Facing Class 6A Copperas Cove and host Class 4A Stephenville, the Early Lady Horns softball team dropped both games in tournament action Thursday.
Early started the day with a 6-3 setback at the hands of the Honeybees Thursday morning.
Leading 3-0 after a half-inning, the Lady Horns (1-1) witnessed Stephenville draw even in the bottom of the first inning. Then in the third inning, Stephenville belted a three-run home run for the final margin.
Early finished with six hits – two by Paizlee Scott, who doubled and singled, while Kayleigh Caperton tripled, Jaime Lyon doubled, and Sydney Greaves and Aleeya McCombs both singled. Zeilah Land and Adysn Atchley were credited with RBIs.
In the circle, Sunny Groom pitched four innings and allowed six runs on four hits with six strikeouts and five walks.
Against Copperas Cove, a 14-1 defeat, the Lady Horns yielded four runs in the top of the first inning, and five each in the second and third frames.
The Lady Horns scored their lone run in the bottom of the third inning on an Avery Sifflemire home run. Lyon and Groom doubled later in the inning to account for Early’s three hits.
Early (1-2) will next play Brock at 3:10 p.m. Friday when tournament action resumes.
