Well the 2026 football schedule is out now. Jeryl Brixey, the Head Coach of the Brownwood Lions, released it in the past few days. Brixey starts his second season at Brownwood High School trying desperately to improve on the 2025 record which I said here, I think was amazing considering what he had to go overcome, what he had to go through, and all of that stuff. Anyway, that’s behind us. Here’s a new football season with a new schedule, and I think I saw where we are in Division 4 for the first time ever.

Anyway, we open up the scrimmage season against Brock. They lost one game last year. We travel to Alvarado the week after, and they lost maybe two. Let’s get to the week that count. August 28, again we open at Abilene Wylie. Abilene Wylie for the second straight year and we got shut out by them last year. Then, on September 4 we play Stephenville for the second straight year. This time here in Brownwood. For the second straight year we will be trying to score again. So we have Wylie on the August 28 and Stephenville on the 4th and that’s the first home game in the new Gordon Wood stadium. So, that’s a couple of toughies to start with. Then, for the first ever we play Springtown here in Brownwood. I think it’s the first time. We played in the Springtown stadium before, but we play Springtown in Brownwood on the 11th. Anyway, September 18th let’s go to Graham. It’s a road game in Graham and they are plenty tough. Springtown, by the way, was a deep playoff team last year. Graham, a deep playoff team last year also. China Spring closes out non-district on the 25th. We had our way with them last year and we go to China Spring once again.

Now on to District play. After an open date on October 2, we will go against District favorite – I have no doubt – that’s LaVega on the 9th. It is a home game and then on the 16th of October we go to Robinson. That’s the first time ever Brownwood has played Robinson. They are deep playoff team from last year. October 23, Gatesville comes here. Then, Waco Connally in Waco on October 30 and then on November 6, we close out the regular season against Salado.

I’m telling you that is tough! Two maybe three teams didn’t make the playoffs last year and Waco or Salado was one of them. That’s the tenth ballgame and it may very well be that’s for the playoff spot – Salado on November 6. Hopefully we’ve got District sown up way before that but anyway that’s the pre-district and the District ballgames. Five road and five home and it looks double tough. Our team has to get double tough, or at least tough!

Until next time, so long everybody.
