Ivery Hunt

Ivery “Joe” Hunt, 68, passed away surrounded by family on February 1, 2026. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 7, 2026, at Wayside Cemetery in Eastland County, Texas.

Joe was born on September 11, 1957 in Abilene, Texas to William Ivery and Alma Sue Hunt. Joe attended Brownwood High School and went on to marry Mamie Evans on June 21, 1976 in Brownwood, Texas where thy began a life together and were blessed with 2 children.

Joe joined the Army right out of high school in 1975 where he rose to the rank of Staff Sgt. After 8 years of service in the Army and 2 years in the reserves, he decided to settle in Brownwood. Joe loved to play golf and fish, and really enjoyed taking the grandkids fishing and camping. He played the guitar and was a member of several bands. Joe first learned how to play “Skip To My Lou” as the 2 older granddaughters skipped around the house. Joe also loved cooking for his family and friends.

Joe is survived by his wife, Mamie Hunt of Bangs, Texas; daughter, Lory Hunt of Bangs, Texas; daughter, Malisa Sheffield (Colby) of Odessa, Texas; granddaughters, Kelby Cass (A.J.) of Brownwood, Texas, Victoria Hunt ( Tre) of Killeen, Texas, Jenny Stewart (Julian) of South Korea, Meagan Shaw (Jeremy) of San Antonio, Texas, Laura Sheffield of Odessa, Texas; as well as grandsons Cameron Shaw of Fort Hood, Texas, and Zac Sheffield of Burneyville, Oklahoma; and six great grandchildren

He was preceded in death by father and mother, William Ivery Hunt and Alma Sue Clements. Brothers, Curtis Moore, and Gerald Hunt. Grandparents, Euliss Sparkman ( Pap) and Alma Lorene Sparkman (Mam).

We would like to thank all the staff at Walker Cancer Center, M.D. Anderson, and all the staff at Solaris and Bangs medical clinic.

In Lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Reel Recovery.
