HOOPS ROUNDUP: May and Zephyr sweep again; Early girls, Blanket boys, Bangs boys collect wins

Early Lady Horns 45, Tolar 39

EARLY – The Early Lady Horns continued their stellar play in District 8-3A basketball action with a 45-39 home victory over Tolar Tuesday night.

The Lady Horns (18-8, 5-1) were in front 14-8 after one frame, 19-10 at intermission, and 27-24 heading to the final stanza.

Scoring for Early were Avery Williams and Andie Simpson with 11 points apiece, Gabby Benson with nine, Cali Vargas with five, Kayleigh Torrez with four, Abby Ferguson and Cassidy Frerichs with two each, and Aliyah Harlan with one point.

Early next travels to Dublin at 6:15 p.m. Friday.

May Tigers 84, Sidney 26

MAY – The No. 17 May Tigers pushed their District 21-A record to 4-0 and overall mark to 13-8 with an 84-26 home triumph over Sidney Tuesday night.

May led 17-6 after one quarter, 45-15 at halftime, and 68-19 after three periods.

Pouring in points for the Tigers were Brody Stice with 22, Kobey Morris with 20, Tyran Perry with 15, Jackson Lusk with 11, Kaden Watkins with nine, and Kayden Psencik with seven.

The Tigers host Ira at 7:30 p.m. in non-district competition.

May Lady Tigers 78, Sidney 12

MAY – The May Lady Tigers improved to 21-6 for the season and 6-0 against District 21-1A foes with a 78-12 home victory over Sidney Tuesday night.

May raced out to a 25-0 lead after one quarter, which grew to 44-5 at halftime and stood at 59-12 heading to the fourth period.

Jordyn Gerhardt scored 37 points for the Lady Tigers and surpassed 1,700 points in her high school career. Also scoring for May were Chloe Lord with 16, Cortney Harper with 13 and Lauren Hicks with 12 points.

The Lady Tigers next host Ira at 6 p.m. Friday in non-district action.

Zephyr Bulldogs 91, Brookesmith Mustangs 30

ZEPHYR – The No. 25 Zephyr Bulldogs remained atop the District 25-A standings with a 91-30 home victory over the Brookesmith Mustangs Tuesday night.

Zephyr (17-6, 4-0) led Brookesmith 25-2 after one quarter, 54-6 at halftime, and 70-11 heading to the fourth period.

The Bulldogs’ scoring parade featured 19 points from Reese Hamm, 13 from CJ Byers, 11 from Cooper Walls, 10 from Troy Kubin, nine from Spencer Marwitz, eight each from Bauer Blair and Slade Butler, seven from Ethan Prochaska, and six points from Quayde Heard.

Caleb Bradley finished with 12 points for Brookesmith.

The Bulldogs are off Friday and visit Hamilton next Tuesday.

Zephyr Lady Bulldogs 61, Brookesmith Lady Mustangs 30

ZEPHYR – The Zephyr Lady Bulldogs rolled past the District 25-A rival Brookesmith Lady Mustangs, 61-30, here Tuesday night.

Zephyr led formerly state-ranked Brookesmith 14-3 after one quarter, 29-15 at halftime, and 44-24 heading to the fourth period.

Kenlyn King paced Zephyr with 14 points followed by 12 from Calyn Kubin, 11 from Avery Stevens, nine from Riley Hood, five from Kirstan King, four each from Nataly Lopez and Sydney Hobson, and two points from Sydnee Simpson.

Brookesmith received 14 points from Brooklyn Haby, six from Ameriah Balleza, four each from Chloe Dye and Emma Slayton, and two points from Madison Johnson.

Both Zephyr and Brookesmith are off Friday night.

Blanket Tigers 40, Gustine 15

BLANKET – The Blanket Tigers stand at 3-0 in District 21-A action and 14-2 overall following a 40-15 home victory over Gustine Tuesday night.

Blanket was in front 6-0 after one quarter, 15-1 at halftime, and 26-5 heading to the fourth period.

Scoring for the victorious Tigers were Mason Beck with 22 points, Kannon Kensing with seven, Karter Keel with five, Brian Shannon with four, and Cole Furry with two points.

Blanket is back in action Friday at Cross Plains.

Tolar 75, Early Longhorns 46

EARLY – The Early Longhorns slipped to 2-2 in District 8-3A action and 7-14 for the season with a 75-46 home loss to Tolar Friday night.

Early trailed 18-14 after one quarter, 39-25 at halftime, and 57-37 heading to the fourth period.

Scoring for the Longhorns were Zack Rumfield with 11 points, Angel Marquez with nine, Skyden Stoddart with seven, Ian Desai and Rhett Williams with six apiece, Dayton Zamora with four, Braiden Brown with two, and Isaac Ybarra with one point.

The Longhorns next visit Dublin Friday.
