HOOPS ROUNDUP: Zephyr boys and Early, Brookesmith, Zephyr girls earn district wins

No. 25 Zephyr Bulldogs 62, Lometa 17

ZEPHYR – The TABC Class A No. 25 Zephyr Bulldogs improved to 15-6 on the season and 2-0 in District 25-A action with a 62-17 home victory over Lometa Tuesday.

The Bulldogs led 8-0 after one quarter, 27-2 at halftime, and 41-5 heading to the fourth period.

Scoring for Zephyr were Quayde Heard with 13 points followed by Reese Hamm with 11, Bauer Blair with 10, Troy Kubin with nine, Ethan Prochaska with eight, Cooper Walls with five, CJ Byers with four, and Spencer Marwitz with two points.

The Bulldogs next visit Cherokee on Friday.

No. 17 Brookesmith Lady Mustangs 38, Cherokee 19

BROOKESMITH – The TABC Class A No. 17 Brookesmith Lady Mustangs returned to the win column with a 38-19 victory over District 25-A rival Cherokee Tuesday.

Brookesmith led 13-8 after one quarter, 20-15 at halftime, and 29-19 heading into the final stanza.

The Lady Mustangs were sparked by 19 points from Ameriah Balleza, eight from Brooklyn Haby, six from Madison Johnson, three from Ava Hatcock, and two points from Emma Slayton.

Brookesmith will next see action Tuesday, Jan. 13 at Zephyr.

Early Lady Horns 50, Breckenridge 20

BRECKENRIDGE – The Early Lady Horns moved to 3-1 in District 8-3A action and 16-8 for the season with a 50-20 road triumph over Breckenridge Tuesday night.

The Lady Horns grabbed an 8-6 lead after one period, which increased to 22-10 at halftime, and 37-10 through three frames.

Offensive standouts for Early were Avery Williams with 18 points, Gabby Benson with 13, Aliyah Harlan with 10, Andie Simpson with five, and Cali Vargas and Kayleigh Torrez with two points apiece.

The Lady Horns are back in action Friday as they host Eastland.

Zephyr Lady Bulldogs 35, Lometa 13

ZEPHYR – The Zephyr Lady Bulldogs chalked up a 35-13 victory over District 25-A rival Lometa Tuesday night.

The Lady Bulldogs owned a 7-5 lead after one quarter, which grew to 15-5 at halftime, and 28-8 heading to the fourth period.

Leading the charge for Zephyr were Avery Stevens with 10 points, Calyn Kubin with seven, Kenlyn King with six, Nataly Lopez with five, Sydney Hobson with three, and Kirstan King with two points.

The Lady Bulldogs are slated to visit Cherokee Friday.

Breckenridge 57, Early Longhorns 51

BRECKENRIDGE – The Early Longhorns slipped to 1-1 in District 8-3A action and 6-13 on the season with a 57-51 loss at Breckenridge Tuesday night.

The Longhorns trailed 19-13 after one quarter, 28-27 at halftime, and 45-41 heading to the fourth period.

Scoring for Early were Zack Rumfield with 15 points, Ian Desai with nine, Dayton Zamora with seven, Braiden Brown and Skyden Stoddart with six each, Angel Marquez with four, Rhett Williams with three, and Nathan Pinkston with one point.

The Longhorns will next host Eastland Friday.
