At today’s meeting of the Brown County Commissioners, David Becktold was sworn in as Brown County Treasurer.  Treasurer Ann Krpoun has held that position for several years, but resigned and retired as of December 31, with one year remaining in her term.  Assistant Treasurer Becktold was selected by the Commissioners to serve as Treasurer for the year 2026, finishing out the elected term.  Becktold has filed as a candidate for the position of Treasurer for the next term which will begin on January 1, 2027.  Also having filed as candidate for the position of Brown County Treasurer are Stacee Hetzel and Stephanie Jester.  The primary election will be held on March 3, 2026.

In other business in today’s meeting of the Commissioners Court:

*** Approval was given for the renewal of the Lexis+ Subscription Agreement, requested by District Judge Mike Smith.  The Lexis+ subscription is used for legal research pertaining to cases in District and County Courts.  County officials and attorneys can use the subscription to prepare for the court case.  The subscription approved by the Commissioners is for three years.  The cost is $1,666 per month for the first year; the cost could possibly increase in the subsequent years of the subscription.

*** Approval was given to an inmate housing contract with Coleman County, requested by Sheriff Vance Hill.  Brown County will charge Coleman County $75 per day when housing an inmate from Coleman County.

*** Commissioners took no action on the burn ban, leaving the current burn ban in place for now.
