Boost your creativity, or just appreciate what local artists have to offer, at the Brownwood Art Center this January. A new exhibit, a free demonstration, and a painting workshop are all coming in the next few weeks, as well as regular meetings of special interest groups, including photography, fiber and textile arts, and a community drum circle. The Art Center is at 215 Fisk.
The opening reception for the People Painters exhibit will be Thursday, Jan. 8, from 5-7 p.m.. This event is free and open to the public, and light refreshments will be served.
The People Painters are the longest-running special interest group in the Brownwood Art Association. They have been meeting weekly for the past few decades, to practice their portrait and figure drawing and painting techniques, usually with a live model. This is a great chance to see the best efforts of some dedicated artists. You may even recognize some of the subjects portrayed!
The following evening, Friday, Jan. 9, come see a free Pastel Portrait Demonstration by Paula Vaughn, from 6-8 pm. Paula will be sharing techniques for handling pastels, blending colors, and highlighting styles, creating a picture from start to finish, and how to mat finished art.
Learn to loosen up your style and paint with confidence during a two-day acrylic workshop led by acclaimed artist Jeremy Serna. “Relax, It’s Just Paint” will be held Saturday, Jan. 17 from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m., and Sunday, Jan. 18 from 1 p.m. – 4 p.m. Tuition is $80, payable at the Art Center during regular gallery hours.
