Edward ‘Joseph’ Slayton

Edward “Joseph” Slayton, affectionately known as Joseph or “Popper,” was born on June 17, 1987, in Austin, Texas, to Fredna Slayton and Edward Espinosa. He passed away on December 16, 2025, at the age of 38.

Joseph made a lasting impact on everyone he met. He was known for his infectious laughter, kind heart, and ability to uplift and encourage others. A framer and carpenter by trade, Joseph took great pride in his work and had a true talent for making things beautiful qualities that reflected his own spirit. Despite living with a heart condition, he chose to live life to the fullest, facing each day with optimism, resilience, and gratitude.

Joseph was preceded in death by his dad, Noah “Noe” Ortega; his son, Marco Arellano; his grandparents; and other loving relatives.

He is survived by his loving mother, Fredna Slayton; his sisters Sabrina Rodriguez and husband John Rodriguez, Sherie Chavez and husband Isaac Chavez, Mandi Emerson and husband Adam Emerson; his brother Joel Slayton; his sisters Evelyn Ortega, Yessica Ortega and spouse Ricki, and Karissa Ortega and spouse David; his daughters Angelique Slayton and Destiny Slayton; and his cherished nieces and nephews Elijah Chavez, Aaliyah Chavez, O’Ryiah Emerson, Reyna Ortega, Violeta Galvan, Lucino Rodriguez and Joshua Rodriguez. 

Joseph will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him. 

A visitation will be held at Blaylock Funeral Home on January 2, 2025, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. A memorial service will be held on January 3, 2025, at Sunset Terrace Reception Center at 2:00pm.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Blaylock Funeral Home.
