I feel a little bit stupid I guess because I was under the impression that the UIL could keep a secret as long as anyone I’ve ever heard of – until now. Now this is a realignment year. That means that certain teams will go into, well, all teams go into alignment, but realignment means that you may be in one division, then drop down or go up the next year, and over and over again

Since day one, 1960, I’ll go back that far, Brownwood has always, always, been in 4A Division I. It was never anything to worry about. We are in the middle of the state and you don’t know what’s going to happen but being in the middle of the state we could go as far as El Paso on the left hand side. We had a team from El Paso in the play offs either last year or the year before last. So, it can go that extreme and they obviously go north most of the time. We went north for twelve years and had a heck of a District. Then decided to go up toward the Metroplex and played up there for about ten years or so. We’ve gone east to the Waco area.

Let me give you the 4A limits this year. Brownwood is now officially a 4A Division II team. They run 550 to 895. Brownwood’s enrollment is 877. We are a big Division II program. Early, meanwhile went up to Division 1 of 3A. They are actually one Division away from us. The numbers are pretty drastic though. On 3A Division I it runs from 367 to 549. In conference 6A it runs from 2215 and up. Division 5A 1305-2214. Division 4A 550 to 1304. Division 3A 246 to 549. Division 2A 105-245.9. Division 1 is 104.9 and below.

Well, that’s what I wanted to share with you. They’ve already put these things out and here’s the kind of “in English” list. Brownwood and Big Spring are down to 4A Division II. Early and Wall are up to 3A Division I and it keeps going.

We can read about it and that’s all there is to it, or in other words people speculate. They don’t outright guess which one of those teams is likely going to fall into what District. But, people speculate. I think the San Angelo paper has speculated. The Abilene Reporter News has speculated, and I guess it’s good to speculate. I’m not going to. I’ll play by the old rules. One of those Division II speculations has Brownwood, Big Spring, Brock, Graham and Snyder as a possibility. I’ll just leave it like that.

I’m fascinated by this and the fact that it has become public as of now and take what you will or what you want to and I’ll leave it with you.

Merry Christmas! I hope you get what you want.

Until next time, so long everybody.
