Wahnee Rae Smith Stallings, born September 25, 1935, in Lampasas, Texas, to Major Bob Smith and Mary Pearl Simon Smith, passed away surrounded by the love of her family.  She moved to San Saba while in elementary school and graduated from San Saba High School in 1953.  Following graduation, Wahnee attended Austin School of Business.

In 1957, she began her career with the Production Credit Association, where she worked faithfully until her retirement.  After retiring, Wahnee continued working at the San Saba News, serving as an editor for several years.

Wahnee was very active in the Methodist church, where she dedicated many years as a Sunday school teacher, sang in the choir, and served as the church secretary.  She was known for keeping the neatest set of books you’ve ever seen.  She also participated in a Walk to Emmaus, reflecting her strong faith and commitment to service.

Family was always central to Wahnee’s life.  She shared close relationships with her many aunts, uncles, and cousins, and the family remained very close throughout the years.  She was also a devoted friend, often taking others to doctor appointments, grocery shopping, and helping deliver Meals on Wheels.

Though she  would say she was never much of a cook, Wahnee was quite capable.  She was an experienced seamstress, could knit and crochet, and was very talented on the piano.

Wahnee absolutely loved and adored her two granddaughters and five great-grandchildren.  She will be dearly missed by all of them.

She is survived by her daughter, Donna Baxter, and husband Randy; granddaughters Laura Terry and husband Charles, and Dana Homeyer and husband Chad, all of Robinson; great-grandchildren Taylor Hardy, Kameron Ellis, Laney Ellis, Kinzie Homeyer, and Preslie Homeyer; her dear sister-in-law Cheryl Smith; nieces Juliana Ewer and Jennifer Barr; and nephew Aaron Smith.

Wahnee was preceded in death by her parents, Bob and Mary Smith, and her brother Don Smith.

A visitation will be held on Monday, December 22, 2025, from 1:00 to 1:30 p.m. at Blaylock Funeral Home in San Saba.  A funeral service will follow at 1:30 p.m.. officiated by Judy Swarts, also at Blaylock Funeral Home.  Interment will take place at Hillsdale Cemetery in Coryell County.

Pallbearers will be Charles Terry, Chad Homeyer, Taylor Hardy, Kameron Ellis, Cooper Petty, and Garrett Malar.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Methodist Church in San Saba, Texas.
