I want to give credit where credit is due. I’ve known of the Army-Navy game since day one. I mean, since I was a little kid and I couldn’t tell you who won the game or who was playing or anything else, but I thought it deserved at least a mention in a column.
They play it every year, usually in bad weather conditions. Today, I’m watching this thing and it’s a heck of a ballgame. I mean if you put school colors on the two teams and played in mid-September it wouldn’t have near the affect. The effect is tremendous! It’s after all of the games are basically out of the way. You know who is in the playoffs and all of that. It’s a done deal. Army/Navy means absolutely nothing EXCEPT when those two teams play it’s a better game than you thought it was. You know for a fact that the President of the United States is probably going to be there. There is an air of excitement when the bands come onto the field. Everything is just good as far as that game is concerned.
I think one of the teams is like 6-6 and the other is like 9-2 so that’s pretty dog gone good considering it’s the Naval Academy and West Point. I just am taken aback by the plays they make and the sportsmanship that they show and you know that those guys are going to be representing you in the military sometime in the next few years and that impresses me. I won’t even tell you who won the ballgame. I don’t know and I don’t care.
Until next time, so long everybody.
