HOOPS ROUNDUP: Brookesmith girls, Zephyr boys and girls, and May boys and girls finish weekend with wins

Zephyr Lady Bulldogs 35, Gorman 31

ZEPHYR – The Zephyr Lady Bulldogs captured the championship of their own tournament Saturday with a 35-31 victory over Gorman.

The Lady Bulldogs led 9-7 after one quarter, 22-16 at halftime, and 32-26 heading to the fourth period.

Avery Stevens scored a game-high 15 points for Zephyr followed by four each from Kenlyn King, Riley Hood, Calyn Kubin and Sydney Hobson, and two points apiece from Kirstan King and Sydnee Simpson.

Zephyr (9-6) will next visit Richland Springs at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

Zephyr Bulldogs 62, San Saba 16

ZEPHYR – The Zephyr Bulldogs competed an unbeaten run to the championship of their own tournament with a 62-16 triumph over San Saba Saturday night.

The Bulldogs led 22-1 after one quarter, 29-4 at halftime, and 45-13 through three periods.

Scoring for the Bulldogs were Reese Hamm with 21 points, Cooper Walls with 15, Bauer Blair with 12 CJ Byers with five, Quayde Heard with four, Spencer Marwitz with three, and Troy Kubin with two points.

Zephyr (9-3) will next host Lingleville at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

Brookesmith Lady Mustangs 36, Priddy 33

RISING STAR – The No. 22 Brookesmith Lady Mustangs completed an undefeated run through the Rising Star tournament with a 36-33 victory over Priddy Saturday, keeping their perfect season record intact in the process.

Ameriah Balleza paced Brookesmith with 19 points along with 10 from Brooklyn Haby, five from Chloe Dye, and one point each from Payton Isbell and Ava Hatchcock.

The Lady Mustangs (12-0) face Priddy again at 6 p.m. Tuesday on the Lady Pirates’ home floor.

May Lady Tigers 47, Ingram Tom Moore 27

May Lady Tigers 62, Brady 43

BRADY – The May Lady Tigers finished up Brady tournament action Saturday with a pair of victories over Class 3A foes Ingram Tom Moore and Brady.

In a 47-27 win Ingram Tom Moore, the Lady Tigers led 20-5 after one quarter, 33-17 at halftime, and 42-23 heading to the fourth period.

Jordyn Gerhardt poured in 27 points trailed by Chloe Lord and Aubree Gerhardt with eight apiece, and McKenna Landes with four points.

In a 62-43 triumph over host Brady, the game was knotted at 9 through one period, the Lady Tigers surged in front 23-16 at the break, and led 44-25 after three quarters.

Jordyn Gerhardt again sparked the offense with 22 points followed by 13 from Harper, 11 from Lord, nine from Landes and four points from Aubree Gerhardt.

The Lady Tigers (12-4) will visit Santa Anna at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

May Tigers 63, Mason 55

BRADY – The May Tigers earned a victory in their Brady tournament finale Saturday, knocking off Mason, 63-55.

Tied at 15 after one quarter, May led 32-24 at halftime and 45-44 through three periods.

Scoring for May were Kobey Morris with 23 points, Brody Stice with 14, Tyran Perry with 12, Kaden Watkins with eight, Kaiden Adams with four, and Jackson Lusk with two points.

The Tigers (9-2) will visit Graford at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Clifton 54, Early Longhorns 49

Cisco 68, Early Longhorns 64

HAMILTON – The Early Longhorns dropped their final two games at the Hamilton tournament, falling to Clifton Friday and Cisco Saturday.

In a 54-49 loss to Clifton, Early trailed 13-10 after one quarter, 27-21 at halftime, and 39-35 heading to the fourth period.

Dayton Zamora scored 11 points to pace the Longhorns followed by eight from Andrew Reedy, six apiece from Cooper Shults, Zack Rumfield, and Rhett Williams, three points each from Skyden Stoddart, Ian Desai and Darryl Watkins, two from Braiden Brown, and one point from Angel Marquez.

In a 68-64 defeat against Cisco, the Longhorns were down 22-14 after one frame and 35-30 at the break, but took a 51-44 lead into the fourth quarter were Early was outscored 24-13 over the final eight minutes.

Brown tallied 21 points for Early followed by 13 from Reedy, 10 from Rumfield, nine from Zamora, six from Williams, three from Shults, and two points from Watkins.

Next up for Early (3-7) is the District 8-3A opener Friday at home against Comanche.
