
The Howard Payne Yellow Jackets completed a sweep of their opponents at the inaugural Dallas Huston Classic, knocking off Arlington Baptist, 112-107, Saturday afternoon at the Brownwood Coliseum.
Howard Payne raced out to a 61-50 halftime lead as the Yellow Jackets shot 48 percent (37 of 77) from the floor, 32 percent (9 of 28) from the three-point arc, and 78 percent (28 of 37) at the free throw line.
Arlington Baptist sank 53 percent (39 of 74) of its field goals, but just 27 percent (4 of 15) of its treys, and 78 percent (25 of 32) if its free throws.
Knotted at 41 in rebounds, Howard Payne forced 26 turnovers which resulted in 38 points, and committed 20.
Armonie Ramey scored 24 points for the Jackets trailed by 23 points from Jordan McClendon, 19 from Jamie Puentes, 11 from Ben Phillip, nine each from Nathan Scott and Avant Coleman, seven from Will Jefferson, five from Jackson Tomlin, two apiece from Braylon Crosby and Sean Calloway, and one point from Carter May.
The Yellow Jackets (8-2) will next visit the University of Dallas at 2 p.m. Sunday.
