
DUBLIN – The Brownwood Lions and Early Longhorns battled through double-overtime in their Dublin basketball tournament opener Thursday afternoon, with the Longhorns coming out on top, 86-85.
Brownwood led Early 16-13 after one quarter, the Longhorns grabbed a 34-30 halftime lead, then the scored was knotted at 49 after three quarters, 60 at the end of regulation, and 71 through the first overtime.
The Lions received 19 points from Durham Brown, 18 from Elias Perez, 12 each from Cannon Calvert, Jordan Gilbert, Carson Noe, five from Judson Coalson, four from Hayden Brumbelow, and three points from Bennett Windham.
The Longhorns were sparked by 20 points from Zack Rumfield, 17 from Braiden Brown, 13 from Andrew Reedy, 12 from Cooper Shults, 10 from Ian Desai, eight from Dayton Zamora and six points from Rhett Williams.
Early started tournament action with a 71-67 loss to Goldthwaite Thursday morning.
The Longhorns trailed 21-13 after one quarter, 41-34 at halftime, and 59-50 through three periods.
Zamora led Early with 15 points followed by 13 from Shults, 12 from Reedy, nine each from Williams and Rumfield, six from Desai and three points from Skyden Stoddart.
Goldthwaite was sparked by 21 points from Aidyn Lee, 15 from Landry Sanderson, 14 from Talen Gardner and 11 from Wilson Grebe.
The Lions are back in action 12:30 p.m. Friday, while the Longhorns will play again at 6:30 p.m. Friday.
