
The 28th Annual Stars of Texas Juried Art Exhibit planning committee has selected renowned artist Austin Uzor as juror of this year’s exhibit. Entries will be accepted on Friday, January 30th and Saturday, January 31st, 2026, for consideration for entry into the show at the Depot Civic & Cultural Center located at 600 E. Depot Street in Brownwood.
Uzor is a Nigerian/American artist and educator living and working between Dallas and New York. He received his Bachelor of Fine Arts in 2013 from the University of Nigeria, majoring in drawing and painting. Since moving to the US in 2016, he obtained his Masters in Drawing and Painting from the University of North Texas in Denton.
Serving as a visiting assistant professor at Alfred University New York and Tarleton State University, Uzor taught painting from 2021-2023.
Uzor has exhibited locally and internationally with solo shows in London, Paris and New York. His works are collected privately and publicly around Europe, Africa and the United States. Two of the most prominent collections are the International African American Museum in South Carolina and the Newark Museum of Arts in New Jersey. Uzor is published frequently, and recently participated in the James Weldon Johnson fellowship and residency program coupled with a lot of notable art fairs such as Expo Chicago, Dallas Art Fair, 154 New York and London.
Uzor is currently back at Alfred University as visiting faculty teaching drawing until 2026.
Uzor will judge entries from noon – 4 PM on Saturday, January 31.
Artists will be notified whether their submissions have been selected for inclusion in this year’s show. If entries are not selected, artists must pick-up their piece upon conclusion of judging. Entries not selected may be entered into the Salon des Refuses at the Art Association in Downtown Brownwood. There is no additional entry fee for this show.
Submissions that are selected to be included in the Stars of Texas Juried Art Exhibit will be eligible for special awards, selected by the Juror. Over $7,000 in awards will be given to the winning artists during a VIP, invitation only reception on February 7.
The Stars of Texas Juried Art Exhibit will be open for viewing by the public at the Depot Civic & Cultural Center, at no charge, during the following hours:
Sunday, February 8th – Saturday, February 21.
Sunday : 1pm-5pm
Monday – Friday : 9am-6pm
Saturday : 9am – 6pm
Special artist demonstrations will also be held during the exhibit from 9 AM -3 PM on February 12, 17, and 18. A special event, Family Day, will also be held on Saturday, February 14, from 11 AM-4 PM.
Each February the Brownwood Civic and Cultural Center hosts the annual Stars of Texas Juried Art Exhibit. This juried exhibit runs for two weeks and culminates with the presentation of over $7,000 in prizes. The Stars of Texas Juried Art Exhibit was conceived in 1999 in order to showcase the newly restored Santa Fe Depot.
