HOOPS ROUNDUP: Early girls edge May; May boys top Zephyr in OT; Blanket boys rout Priddy

Early Lady Horns 38, May Lady Tigers 34

MAY – The Early Lady Horns slipped past the May Lady Tigers, 38-34, in a Brown County non-district battle Tuesday night.

Early (7-3) jumped out a 12-4 lead over May (5-2) after one quarter, and the lead stood at 17-10 at halftime and 22-20 heading into the fourth period.

The Lady Horns received 12 points from Aliyah Harlan, 10 from Gabby Benson, six from Avery Williams, and five points each from Andie Simpson and Abby Ferguson.

The Lady Tigers were led by Jordyn Gerhardt’s 16 points, eight from Chloe Lord, and five points apiece from Cortney Harper and McKenna Landes.

Early will compete in the Miles tournament Thursday through Saturday, while May will be at the Huckabay tournament.

May Tigers 54, Zephyr Bulldogs 49 (OT)

ZEPHYR – The May Tigers opened their basketball season Tuesday night with a 54-49 overtime victory over the Zephyr Bulldogs.

May (1-0) led Zephyr 17-9 after one quarter and 25-21 at halftime, but Zephyr (0-2) took a 38-36 advantage into the fourth period.

The Tigers received 18 points from Kobey Morris, 13 each from Brody Stice and Tyran Perry, eight from Jackson Lusk and two points from Kaden Watkins.

The Bulldogs were led by Reese Hamm with 14 points, Bauer Blair with 11 points, nine from Braxton Works, eight from Ethan Prochaska, five from CJ Byers, and two points from Troy Kubin.

May will compete in the Huckabay tournament, while Zephyr will take part in the Baird tournament Thursday through Saturday.

Blanket Tigers 52, Priddy 11

BLANKET – The Blanket Tigers improved to 3-0 on the season with a 52-11 victory over the Priddy Pirates Tuesday night.

Blanket led 20-0 after one quarter, 35-2 at halftime, and 44-4 heading to the fourth period.

The Tigers received 14 points from Alex Valdes, eight from Mason Beck, seven from Karter Keel, five points each from Albert Espinosa, Kannon Kensing, and Brian Shannon, three from Leo Valdes, two apiece from Weston Chisom and Cole Furry, and one point from Wyatt Meadow.

Blanket will take part in the Rochelle tournament Thursday through Friday.

Zephyr Lady Bulldogs 52, Sidney 18

ZEPHYR – The Zephyr Lady Bulldogs cruised to a 52-18 home victory over Sidney Tuesday night.

Zephyr led 17-0 after one quarter, 29-4 at halftime, and 35-10 through three periods.

The Lady Bulldogs received 18 points from Avery Stevens, 15 from Calyn Kubin, nine from Kenlyn King and six points from Kirstan King.

Zephyr will next compete at the Baird tournament Thursday through Saturday.

Cherokee 26, Bangs Lady Dragons 25

BANGS – The Bangs Lady Dragons came up on the short end of a 26-25 decision to Cherokee on their home court Tuesday night.


Bangs trailed 12-3 after one quarter, 15-10 at halftime, and 19-16 heading to the fourth period.

Scoring for the Lady Dragons were Ashlynn Sliger with 12 points, Adalynne Stephens and Kylee Newton with four apiece, Lillian Boren with three, and Justice Baker with two points.

The Lady Dragons are back in action at 2 p.m. Saturday as they host Hamlin.

Coleman 72, Early Longhorns 69

COLEMAN – The Early Longhorns dropped a narrow 72-69 decision to the Coleman Bluecats on the road Tuesday night.

Early trailed 17-15 after one quarter, led 34-30 at halftime, and fell behind 63-52 after three frames.

The Longhorns were sparked by 25 points from Andrew Reedy, 13 from Darryl Watkins, 12 from Dayton Zamara, 10 from Zack Rumfield, six from Braiden Brown, two from Ian Desai and one point from Skyden Stoddart.

Coleman was led by 16 points from Hunter Edington, 14 points from Jayden Smith, 13 points from Bronson Brooks, and 11 points from Micah Lackey.

The Longhorns are headed to the Dublin tournament Thursday through Saturday.
