Downtown Brownwood to Host Christmas Tree Lighting, Kick Off Holiday Season & Encourage Shopping Local

Downtown Brownwood Inc., in partnership with the City of Brownwood, invites the community to gather in the heart of downtown for the Downtown Christmas Tree Lighting on Tuesday, December 2, 2025 at 6:30 pm at Pat Coursey Park. 
The evening will open with a welcome from Downtown Brownwood Inc., followed by holiday remarks from Mayor Stephen E. Haynes, who will help lead the countdown to light the community Christmas tree. Attendees can enjoy festive music, hot chocolate, photo booth, and the cheerful atmosphere that has become a Brownwood holiday tradition.
“The Downtown Christmas Tree Lighting is our invitation to start the season together, right here in the heart of Brownwood,” said Eric Evans, Board President of Downtown Brownwood Inc. “It’s a chance to pause, look around, and remember why this place feels like home for the holidays.”
“Each year, this tree becomes a gathering point for our community,” said Mayor Stephen E. Haynes. “We come together as friends and neighbors to celebrate hope, joy, and togetherness. I invite everyone to join us downtown as we begin the Christmas season in Brownwood.”
The Downtown Christmas Tree Lighting kicks off a full lineup of Christmas events, including
  • Christmas at Howard Payne University – Tuesday, December 2, 2025, at 6:30 p.m. in Howard Payne University’s Mims Auditorium. A free community concert featuring HPU’s Yellow Jacket Band, Concert Choir, community musicians, and students, followed by the Christmas on the Plaza campus lighting at 7:30 p.m.
  • Brownwood Lyric Theatre Christmas Production – The Best Christmas Pageant Ever – December 5–14, 2025, at the Brownwood Lyric Theatre, with afternoon and evening performances on both weekends. A family-friendly Christmas show that pairs perfectly with a downtown dinner or shopping trip. Tickets are available at BrownwoodLyricTheatre.com.
  • Christmas Under the Stars Lighted Parade – Thursday, December 4, 2025, at 6:15 p.m. in Downtown Brownwood. A free, family-friendly lighted parade filled with over 100 floats, music, and small-town Christmas spirit.
  • Christmas Under the Stars Festival – Saturday, December 6, 2025, from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the Lehnis Railroad Museum & Visitor Center. A free Christmas festival featuring kids’ activities, crafts, visits with Santa, and plenty of holiday fun.
  • Sipping Under the Stars – Saturday, December 6, 2025, from 4:00–8:00 p.m. in Downtown Brownwood. A ticketed wine-and-beer tasting and shopping stroll with samples from regional wineries and breweries, plus extended-hours shopping at local boutiques and merchants.
  • Yuletide Express: A Vintage Christmas Journey – Saturday, December 13, 2025, from 5:00–8:00 p.m. at the Lehnis Railroad Museum & Visitor Center. A nostalgic evening with mini train rides, hot chocolate, Christmas crafts, and a visit with Santa under the lights.
