Class A Division I Region IV Championship

May (11-1) vs. Gordon (11-0)

6 p.m. Friday at Clyde

The team that knocked the May Tigers out of the playoffs in 2024, en route to the Class A Division I state championship, awaits in Friday’s Region IV championship games, as the Gordon Longhorns eye their 42nd win in a row.

May is coming off a 72-24 regional semifinal triumph over Medina as Lane Goodson fueled the Tiger attack with a season-high 320 rushing yards and five touchdowns and also threw for 137 yards and another score.

Kobey Morris added three scoring receptions totaling 67 yards and added an 18-yard rushing score, while Cayson Dail passed for 42 yards and two touchdowns. Mikey Scheriger tacked on 27 yards on the ground and a touchdown as well.

Kaden Watkins added 67 yards receiving; Brody Stice contributed 39 yards all-purpose yards; Jackson Lusk tallied 36 receiving yards and 12 rushing yards; Kayden Psencik rushed for 13 yards; and Maddix Raffel finished with 9 yards receiving.

Defensively for May, Scheriger led the way with eight tackles and an interception trailed by five tackles from both Lusk and Raffel, four tackles each from Goodson and Morris, and two tackles apiece from Watkins and Stice.

Gordon carries a 41-game win streak into Friday’s contest – including one victory over an 11-man squad this year – as the Longhorns target a third consecutive state crown.

In the Longhorns’ 61-14 victory over Menard last week, Gordon produced 257 yards – 130 rushing and 127 passing – on only 14 snaps, while allowing 192 yards, with 116 coming on the ground.

Stryker Reed rushed for 120 yards and two touchdowns and caught a 30-yard touchdown; Ry Reed hauled in a 42-yard scoring reception, rushed for 20 yards and a pair of touchdowns, and returned a kick 80 yards for six points; Brayden Walters grabbed two receptions for 25 yards and scored once; and Noah Kostiha was 4 of 6 through the air for 127 yards and three scoring strikes.

Friday’s winner will face either Aquilla (12-0) or Union Hill (10-2) out of Region III in the state semifinals.

According to sixmanfootball.com, May is a 39-point underdog.

The May game will be broadcast on koxe.com

Class A Division II Region IV Championship

Richland Springs (11-1) vs. Oglesby (11-1)

3 p.m. Saturday at Dublin

For the past two seasons, the Richland Springs Coyotes have been unable to get past the Oglesby Tigers in the playoffs, and a third meeting is on tap with a berth in the Class A Division II state semifinals up for grabs.

The Coyotes are coming off a 59-12 victory over Zephyr in the regional semifinals last week as Cohen Ethridge rushed for 146 yards and four touchdowns, returned a punt 42 yards for another Coyote score, and threw a 66-yard touchdown pass to Rush Norris.

Ethan Deeds chipped in 72 yards through the air with a pair of touchdowns, and 3 yards rushing. Billy Perry caught two passes for 52 yards with a trip to the end zone, and also rushed for 50 yards, while Layne Ward grabbed a 20-yard scoring reception as well.

Oglesby knocked off Cherokee, 74-44, a week ago, and ended Richland Springs’ season in 2023 by a 62-48 count, and a score of 60-46 a year ago.

The Tigers are led this season by Holdyn Goff (2,203 rushing yards, 48 TDs; 1,101 passing yards, 13 TDs), Jack Hendricks (18-446, 7 TDs receiving), Jaxon Markum (13-410, 7 TDs receiving), and Callan Webb (612 rushing yards, 9 TDs).

Friday’s winner will face either Strawn (10-1) or Three Way (11-1) out of Region III in the state semifinals.

According to sixmanfootball.com, Richland Springs is a 15-point favorite.

The Richland Springs game will be broadcast on KOXE FM 101.3
