Howard Payne University’s Yellow Jacket Band and Concert Choir will join with the Central Texas Community Band and Brownwood Community Chorus to present the “Christmas at HPU” community concert. This year’s concert will also feature students from Coggin 6th Grade, directed by Ashley Foust, music teacher at Coggin 6th Grade. The performance will be held on Tuesday, December 2, at 6:30 p.m. in HPU’s Mims Auditorium and is free of charge.
“We are so excited to present this event and join the community in the onset of the Christmas season,” said Dr. Chris Rosborough, associate professor of music, director of choral activities and chair of the Department of Music. “Those in attendance can enjoy some unique and beautiful selections and expect to join in the magic of the music on several Christmas carols. The profound concept of ‘Heaven and Earth in little space’ can be experienced in the grandiosity and intimacy of the pieces on this year’s program.”
The public is invited to attend the concert and stay on campus for refreshments and the Christmas on the Plaza campus lighting ceremony at 7:30 p.m. at the Mims pergola.
“‘Christmas at HPU’ is my absolute favorite program of the year,” said Dr. Jon Kraemer, director of bands and assistant professor of music. “The special music and powerful message of Christmas go hand-in-hand to help us kickoff the advent season like no other event on campus. Additionally, the large number of players and singers involved brings an added layer of excitement to the presentation. I always look forward to this annual event.”
